Paid Residency (minimum 10 days)

This option is open to artists who can demonstrate skills through a portfolio or project description and understand Austmarka’s unique environment. We expect you to appreciate the quiet, nature-based setting and its focus on reflection, without emphasis on networking or large-scale promotion. A simple application with a description of your artistic practice and how it fits here is sufficient.

Half Subsidized Residency (price depending on the length of the stay)

This is for artists with a clear, professional plan for the project that aligns with Austmarka’s goals.

The project description should be attached to the application as an attachment and aim to be concise and informative. You must show experience or a strong vision in your field.

We require that you actively post images from the residency, your project, or the environment – before, during, and after – and tag us as much as possible on your own social media platforms to make the residency visible. Wi want to cnow which social media you use (for example Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter/X, your own website, or others).

In addition, you must provide at least 5 high-quality digital photographs of the residency or project that we can use freely. The subsidy is financed through external funds, and your active publishing is payment for the subsidy, as it saves us work time and resources from the volunteers.

We undertake to apply for the residency to be subsidized for you. Failure to deliver can threaten our operations. Submit a detailed project plan and examples of previous work. See the “Kul Tur Ute” page for examples of projects artists have delivered – there is great openness to playfulness.

Fully Subsidized Residency (grant)

Our grant covers only housing and studio.

We do not pay for travel, food, salary or anything else. Housing and studio are free, but you must pay an administration fee.

Everyone who receives a grant must pay the administration fee before the residency starts. This fee shows that you will really come. We are a small volunteer organisation. If you do not come, we cannot report to our funders. Then we lose money for the future. If you do not come, the whole residency programme can end.

When you arrive here, you get half of the administration fee back as a gift card for the local food shop. If you do not come, you get nothing back.

You must first and foremost be active and share links to us on your own social media. This is the most important way to make us visible.

You must also prepare one showing, one lecture, or one workshop. We do this to prove that the residency actually takes place. The place is small and very few people will come. The event gives you little direct promotion, but you can list it in your future CV and portfolio.

Everything you do must take little or no time from our volunteers. You are responsible for all visibility and documentation yourself.

Submit a short and clear plan that shows:

  • Which social media you use (for example Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter/X, your own website, or others)
  • How and when you will share links to us on these platforms
  • What kind of showing, lecture, or workshop you will prepare

You must send us screenshots or links as proof that you have already started sharing links to us before you receive the key and access to the house.

A grant from us means:

  • free studio
  • free housing with basic facilities
  • possible access to some tools and materials (we confirm this when you are accepted)

If you apply for residency in Norway, please be aware that Norway is a high-cost country.

This house was built on the ashes of a house of prayer. A private goal, and a reason for rebuilding this house, was to open a studio for the benefit of everyone’s good. We hope to generate enough income to fulfill this goal.

Please be sure you can afford the costs and will work according to our requirements. Aside from that, all you need is good intention and an open heart.
