Visa Information for International Applicants

If you come from a country that requires a visa to travel to Norway/the Schengen Area, you must familiarize yourself thoroughly with the process. There are different levels of visa applications; the one you apply for to visit us is a Tourist Visa (Schengen Visa). Securing the necessary visa and documentation for entry into Norway is the applicant’s sole responsibility.

General Visa Requirements and Financial Guarantees

Please note that the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) requires evidence that you can cover your living expenses, accommodation, travel, and insurance. This financial documentation must be in place regardless of scholarship status.

Atelier Austmarka cannot act as a financial guarantor or provide confirmations that substitute this required proof. We offer no guarantees for your visa application.

Requirement for Strong Ties to Your Home Country

If you are applying from a country where many citizens seek residence outside their home country, be aware that you must document the ties you have to your home country (such as employment, family, or other commitments) to obtain a visa. Atelier Austmarka will not assist you with any of this.

Recommended Basic Documentation for High-Risk Applications

If you are applying from a country where it is historically difficult to obtain a visa for Norway, we recommend you are able to document the following, in addition to your artistic materials:

  • Sufficient Funds for the entire stay (living expenses, accommodation, and travel).
  • Proof of Return (paid round-trip flight tickets).
  • Travel Insurance covering the entire stay in the Schengen Area.
  • Ties to the Home Country (employer declaration, documentation of schooling/studies, property ownership, family commitments).

When applying for an AIR-stay here, you might need a tourist visa. This depends on which country you are a citizen of. You must hand in all the documents on the embassy’s checklist. You will find the checklist by clicking on the “Want to apply”- button and choosing the country you live in.

Some general information:

  • You must pay an application fee.
  • You must have a passport that is valid for at least three months after the end of your visit. The passport must be issued within the last ten years.
  • You must have valid international travel insurance.
  • You must have enough money to finance your stay in Norway and your return journey. You must normally have NOK 500 for each day of your stay in Norway.
