Av Zeynab Shahrzad Malekian.
Malekian focuses on the performative aspect of sculptures and considers the installation as a corporeal process in which the bodies of the audience often play an essential role. In turn, the body movements in the performances translate into sculptural images and snapshots. Through these layers of method and material, the installation explores performance structures and invites visitors into a transitional space.
In this exhibition, Malekian explores the dynamic between artworks and spectators by creating games, moments, tasks and atmospheres that encourage audience participation. The artworks themselves become living organisms rather than static forms created specifically for interaction.
This installation is specifically for children and young people. Influenced by post-dramatic theatre, the tangible experience of the installation is transformed into a performative event. The children’s play is interwoven with the artistic practice, creating an unpredictable and unrepeatable hedonistic experience.
“Participatory Playground” touches on alternative pedagogy and heterotopia as well as the artist’s responsibility to develop strategies for a play environment that stimulates children’s creativity without imposing certain ways of playing on them. Free play is the core concept of “Participatory Playground”, which she highlights through the eventfulness and immediate interaction between the children and the installation.
